How I Got Started - - -
During summer breaks from teaching in the 1970's, I worked at a local YMCA. The Y had a Weightlifting Team and I often drove them in the van to lifting meets. Several of the lifters were national level competitors and they encouraged me to take pictures of them as they broke their personal, regional, and national records. Several of these shots were submitted to the York Barbell Company for publication in STRENGTH & HEALTH magazine. One early photo was published complete with caption and photo credit. That was the beginning! No top of the line cameras, no specialized lighting equipment, and no training. I think I used a Kodak Instamatic for those early shots, but they captured the moment and the photos were published.

ABOUT "ADONIS PRODUCTIONS"
May I share a few words about the name of my business -- I chose ADONIS PRODUCTIONS as a moniker in the formative years of my work. In Greek mythology, Adonis was half man and half god. He was the ultimate specimen of masculine beauty and physical perfection. His physical beauty was so stunning that he won the love of Aphrodite, the queen of the gods. Is it not fitting that a photography business which specializes in photographing bodybuilders and male models be named for the Greek god of physical beauty! Twenty-five plus years of working under the name ADONIS PRODUCTIONS has proven to me that I made a smart choice. The fact that it appears near the head of any alphabetical listing doesn't hurt, either.

Our Logo
My logo, a bodybuilder with a sword at his side, may represent a Spartan more than Adonis, but I cherish this image. The model and I created this pose during a photo session more than twenty years ago. He was a leading bodybuilder from Trenton, New Jersey and I had photographed him several times. His photos and bodybuilding successes appeared more than once in York Barbell and other magazines. It was a "lucky" pose and a "lucky" photograph. The pose had been shot in full light in color and black and white and then I decided to try to capture it in silhouette with back lighting againist a white background. It worked! I never considered any other image as a possible logo for the business.
